Our Story
PregSafe was born from personal experience. Our co-founder Tanya, who has PCOS, faced significant challenges when trying to conceive. She wanted to switch to safer products that supported her fertility, but quickly discovered how complicated and inconsistent ingredient information could be. Our co-founder Lauren, who has adenomyosis, later found herself navigating pregnancy with her own set of questions around what was safe to use and consume. Despite their different journeys, they experienced the same frustration — there was no single, clear resource offering quick, reliable, pregnancy and fertility-specific guidance. PregSafe was created to fill that gap.
What We Built
Ingredient Database
We built and own the UK's largest and most comprehensive pregnancy and TTC ingredient database, covering hundreds of ingredients that may need to be avoided or used with caution. This proprietary database powers the cosmetic checks inside our app.
Millions of Food Products
For food, the PregSafe app accesses a trusted and extensive product database containing millions of items, allowing you to scan barcodes or search products and instantly see nutrition details, processing levels and PregSafe's pregnancy or TTC safety guidance.
AI-Powered Guidance
The PregSafe app brings all of this together in one place. Powered by a large language model AI assistant, you can speak to it naturally and get clear, data-driven answers about both what goes on your skin and what goes into your body.
Our Mission
PregSafe exists because safe decision-making in pregnancy and fertility shouldn't require hours of research or specialist knowledge. We're here to empower you with clear, reliable information so you can make confident choices for yourself and your baby.
A Heads Up
While it's impossible to remove every risk associated with modern cosmetics, toiletries and food products during pregnancy or when trying to conceive — especially as many ingredients and additives cannot ethically be tested on pregnant individuals or babies — we're here to guide you toward the safest possible choices.
At PregSafe, we classify cosmetic and toiletry ingredients as unsafe when they may affect pregnancy or fertility, for example endocrine disruptors or carcinogens. We don't automatically mark all irritants or allergens as unsafe, as they do not pose long-term risks to fertility or your baby, though we may highlight them as "use with caution." We always advise carrying out a patch test if you have sensitive skin.
For food, the PregSafe app uses a trusted and extensive product database containing millions of items. Some of this information is community-submitted, which means occasional minor inaccuracies in ingredient lists can occur. When this happens, PregSafe still provides guidance based on the information available and highlights anything unusual, helping you make informed decisions with clarity and confidence.
We've set our own strict safety standards to define what "pregnancy safe" means for us. While absolute safety may never be guaranteed, you can trust PregSafe to significantly reduce avoidable risks and empower you with clear, health-conscious choices for both TTC and pregnancy.
A Gentle Disclaimer
Our safety standards are based on our own extensive research and the criteria we have chosen to prioritise. They reflect PregSafe's approach to interpreting the available evidence, and guidance may differ between organisations, practitioners or countries. PregSafe is not a substitute for medical advice, so always consult with your doctor or midwife if you have concerns or are considering changes to your routine.
